  • Great graph on CEO compensation. Shocking. Since the late 1990s, corporate execs have been making so much more -- too much in my opinion -- and then for Bush to extend to them a hefty tax cut on top of their stratospheric earnings.

  • Oh the best graph of all now. Ed does the comparative in global spending on military expenditures. Terrific! Need to show this graph every day -- the obsence waste of taxpayer money; the idiocy of talking about cutting NPR and PBS funding when military spending is a huge bloat in the budget.

  • Ed makes the point in the Takedown: Tax Cuts increase the debt and require the debt limit to go up! Why isn't Obama pointing this out -- the Republicans are behaving like children -- first forcing excessive tax cuts and now complaining about the consequences of their own actions.

  • Mahopac, NY residents are split between Ma-HO-pac and MAY-o-pac, the former supposedly the older of the two pronunciations. Carmel, NY is most decidedly pronounced CAR-mel, not car-MEL.

  • When I was growing up in NYC in the 1960s, traffic announcers would always pronounce the Kosciuszko Bridge "kahs-key-AHS-koh." But some time more recently some of them learned that was wrong, so now you often hear various attempts or approximations of the correct pronunciation of the Polish general …

  • The tax rates on higher earning Americans and large corporations need to go much higher, along with strong tax incentives for creating jobs for Americans.

  • To put JFK's comment in proper context, the maximum tax rate in 1962 was 87%! So Kennedy's idea of a lower tax rate was still much higher than the tax rates of today. The max rate was dropped to 70% under LBJ, and it dropped further to 50% under Reagan. Way higher than the 34% - 37% of this decade.
